Compleat: Simple macOS Reminder System
Now available: harrisonpage/compleat
Display an emoji in your menubar, it goes away when you mark it as complete. I use this for daily reminders. I find the presence of a new item in my menubar works nicely for me, more lightweight than a calendar or a todo list app.
How it actually works: It's two pieces, a CLI tool and a headless menu bar app that talk to each other over a Unix socket. You run compleat 🐈 from the command line (or via cron) and the emoji appears in your menu bar. There's only a single menu item: Mark Completed and clicking that removes the emoji until the next time.
There are enough emojis out there to invent your own personal vocabulary for shit-that's-gotta-get-done like 💊 for daily medication, 🐈 for cleaning the catbox or 💧 for watering plants.
The app deliberately has no state or UI. Editing cron files is easy for me, I already live in the terminal.
